Kente for Sale!

Kente cloth is a traditional cloth woven by the Ashanti people. It is available all over West Africa. Our Deaf friend Kojo Prempeh has woven this cloth with the help of his friend Abudu. These two young men work in the vocational school at the Jamasi School for the Deaf and Blind. All proceeds are donated to the school! :)

Each one of these beautiful cloths is 15 dollars, and they come in four different patterns.

If you want to buy one, email me at kelly.mccormish@gmail.com

Diapers

Thanks to everyone who donated to our diaper drive for the Kumasi Children's Home! Thanks again to Marin Lutheran Church for letting us put a donation bin in the church. We have over 1,500 diapers and six large containers of baby formula. We are now only accepting monetary donations for the diaper drive, so we can buy the supplies when we get to Kumasi. The staff and children at the orphanage will be so relieved to have these supplies. Thank you for donating!

Dani is Immunized!

Today Dani got her Typhoid and Yellow Fever shots! After some paperwork and a short talk with the nurse it only took a couple seconds to give her the vaccines. She said the Typhoid barely hurt, and the Yellow Fever was just a pinch. Now she is all set to go to Africa! There is still a lot more preparation to do, but at least we are done with needles!

Sunday, May 19, 2013

Hi everyone! I'm Kelly, and chances are you probably already know me. I thought it would be a good idea to start blogging about the Ghana trip, so everyone back home can stay updated while we are gone. We leave in about a month, we will fly out to Frankfurt and then to Accra, where we will stay in a hostel for the night. The next morning we will take the six hour bus ride to Kumasi, where we will stay. We have already started packing all the donations, mostly diapers and baby formula for the Children's home. I am still putting collection bins out for diapers and baby formula, I will post more about that later. We each get to check two large bags, and those will be filled with donations (all the clothes we need can fit in a backpack). This year I'm really excited because we are bringing Dani along! She still needs to apply for a visa and get her shots, so that will happen soon! We will also spend some time at the Jamasi School for the Deaf and Blind, and hopefully will have the opportunity to teach a class or two to the children about hygiene. Mostly I am excited to see the special Ed. children at the orphanage, because we spent so much time with them last year. I will also set up a PayPal on this blog so readers can donate to one of our many projects. Please take your time to explore the gallery and read about our upcoming projects! Thanks for reading!
