Going to the Zoo

On Friday we took 13 of the orphans to the zoo, we chose the ones we thought would enjoy and appreciate the experience the most. One of the girls who was about 4 years old started crying in the taxi because she had never been outside of the orphanage. This is much too common with the children, they often have never seen the world outside of the orphanage. To get permission for taking the children, all we had to do was write their names on a piece of paper and hand it to the administrator of the Children's Home. There were 4 volunteers who came to the zoo: Dani, myself, Karen, and Caroline. It was hectic trying to keep track of so many children, but it worked out well and all the kids had a great time! We even got to pet a baby elephant!

We are in Kumasi and working in the Children's Home! We had fun in the daycare centre, then we went to the girls house to be with the three disabled girls and the young babies. The youngest baby is less than a week old, she is so small I think she might be only two pounds. She must be premature, so tomorrow we are going to bring her some formula we have from the U.S. that should help her. The daycare center is CRAZY! There are about twenty kids that are left alone with just me and Dani, and there is always a few kids screaming or crying. I changed almost 20 diapers and fed two babies. Here are some photos :)

We are in Germany, on our way to Ghana! We are waiting at our gate to Accra, and we will stay in a hotel for the night. In the morning we will take the 6 hour bus to Kumasi. We might see Eric in Accra, so we can give him care packages to give to the sponsored children in his program.
